Behavioral Health Counselor
POSITION SUMMARY
The Behavioral Health Counselor plays a vital role in supporting clients on their path to emotional and psychological wellness. Through evidence-based interventions, compassionate care, and collaborative treatment planning, this position ensures that individuals receive the tools and guidance needed for meaningful recovery. As a cornerstone of our agency's mission, the counselor fosters resilience, promotes self-empowerment, and helps build healthier communities—one client at a time.

OBJECTIVES
• Maintain and manage a structured and up-to-date clinical calendar.
• Complete assessments and provide individualized treatment recommendations.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
• Develop and update treatment plans in collaboration with clients.
• Conduct individual counseling sessions that align with treatment goals.
• Facilitate outpatient and intensive outpatient group therapy sessions.
• Respond to crises using de-escalation techniques and clinical judgment.
• Implement relapse prevention strategies tailored to client needs.
• Provide case management services to coordinate client care.
• Plan and execute client-centered discharge and transition support.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

● Applies evidence-based modalities and clinical interventions tailored to client needs.
● Utilizes community resources and referrals to enhance client support systems.
● Delivers clear, engaging psychoeducation to promote recovery and wellness.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
● Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
● Must hold a current New Mexico license (LMFT, LMSW, LMHC, LCSW or LPCC).
● Maintains licensure through ongoing training, CEUs, and professional development.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
● Ability to sit at a desk or in session settings for extended periods.
● Ability to stand for periods of up to three (3) hours as needed.
● Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds (e.g. files, supplies, materials).
● Frequent walking within the facility and between offices or group rooms.
● Sufficient hearing and speech to engage in effective communication.
● Ability to operate standard office equipment and clinical tools (computers, printers, etc.)
