Addictions Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Addictions Counselor provides client-centered support and therapeutic services to individuals experiencing substance use challenges. Through compassionate care, education, and evidence-based interventions, the counselor empowers clients to build coping skills, achieve recovery goals, and sustain long-term wellness. This role is essential in guiding individuals toward lasting change and directly contributes to the success of the treatment team and the overall impact of the program.

OBJECTIVES

• Maintain an organized and up-to-date clinical calendar. 

• Complete assessments and provide individualized treatment recommendations. 

• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation. 

• Develop and update treatment plans in collaboration with clients. 

• Conduct individual counseling sessions that align with treatment goals. 

• Facilitate outpatient and intensive outpatient group therapy sessions. 

• Respond to crises using de-escalation techniques and clinical judgment. 

• Implement relapse prevention strategies tailored to client needs. 

• Provide case management services to coordinate client care. 

• Plan and execute client-centered discharge and transition support. 

• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

● Associate degree or higher in counseling, a counseling-related field, substance abuse, or a related field, consistent with New Mexico licensure requirements. 

● Must hold a current and active New Mexico Licensed Substance Abuse Associate (LSAA) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) license. 

● Maintains licensure through required continuing education and professional development. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

● Ability to sit at a desk or in session settings for extended periods. 

● Ability to stand for periods of up to three (3) hours as needed. 

● Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds (e.g. files, supplies, materials). 

● Frequent walking within the facility and between offices or group rooms. 

● Sufficient hearing and speech to engage in effective communication. 

● Ability to operate standard office equipment and clinical tools (computers, printers, etc.)
